| The Rangitata Gorge offers great excitement but it is the total day experience which you will remember. Get off the normal tourist track, you will be glad you do. Rough Guide Book 06/07 -"One of the best white-water rafting operators in New Zealand."
Lonely Planet 06/07 "The Rangitata River is considered one of the country’s best."
The Rangitata river passes through some of New Zealand's most spectacular scenery only seen by those who raft with us.
The rapids gradually build from flat water to some thrilling white water sections. Our company is New Zealand owned and operated and places great emphasis on providing a unique, safe, enjoyable and memorable experience to rafters of every level. Our trips are all about enjoyment and some of the best parts include: Grade 5 rapids - the Rangitata gorge has two grade 5 sections but starts on grade 1 (flat water), ensuring something for everyone! Option to walk around if preferred. Value for money - A full day rafting experience with optional transport, food and the best rafting at excellent prices! Professional guides - All our staff offer exceptional levels of guiding and true kiwi hospitality. Time on water - We spend 2.5 - 3 hours enjoying amazing white water rafting and outstanding views!
Rangitata Rafting Experience On arrival at our lodge you have the opportunity to meet your fellow rafters and guides while enjoying an early, fresh lunch.
You will then receive a briefing for the day's activities and change into the safety and comfort equipment provided for the 2.5 hours on the river.
A full safety brief and practical training is given in the first 1/2 hour of flat grade 1 water. The rapids then build in a natural progression to the intense grade 4 and 5 section where the full volume of the river narrows to a pinch. We stop before these rapids to show you the planned route through. If anyone prefers to walk around with the photographer this is fine.
After that there's often a chance for white water swimming and an optional leap from the famous "Jump Rock." Back at the river base hot showers and a relaxed traditional barbecue complete your fantastic days rafting with the Rangitata crew.
We love the river and its surrounding area. Our crew will treat you as an individual on this one-trip-a-day, all inclusive river experience. We take our time to make sure your trip with us is special
Transport: A pick up service and transport from Christchurch to our river base is provided. Pick ups from inner city accommodation providers begin at approximately 8.15am (April & early May 7.45am). It is a two hour bus journey to our lodge taking in some of the South Island's most spectacular scenery along the way. It you wish, remember to bring a book for the journey. For those making their own way, our rafting base is located 13km further on from the village of Peel Forest, on the Rangitata Gorge road. It is a sealed road all the way to our lodge.
